Establishment of a Secondary Temperature Calibration Laboratory
Secondary temperature calibration labs perform comparison calibrations of secondary, high-level industrial, and industrial temperature sensors. Secondary labs also provide calibration capability for liquid-in-glass (LIG) thermometers. The workload of a secondary lab requires less stringent uncertainty, which enables a more efficient process with greater throughput. Corporations, government agencies, and private institutions justify the need for a secondary calibration lab when the investment yields an attractive return and when they don’t have the need to achieve primary- level uncertainties. A secondary lab should usually operate to the requirements of International Standard 17025:2005, General Requirements for Competence of Calibration and Testing Laboratories.
