Checklist: How to choose calibration management software
Choosing a calibration management software application requires careful investigation. Here’s a checklist of criteria to keep in mind.
- Does the calibration management software automate your calibrators?
- Does it automate your devices under test?
- Are calibration procedures available or can you create them easily?
- Does the manufacturer offer training?
- Does the manufacturer offer support? What kinds of support?
- Telephone
- Knowledge base
- User groups
- Bulletin boards/user forums
- Does the manufacturer introduce regular updates and upgrades?
- Is the software easy to use?
- Does the software have benefits that you find useful?
- Productivity enhancement
- Better consistency
- Does it work for your laboratory environment? (single computer or network)
- Does it help you meet quality standards?
- Can you produce reports?
- Can you customize and configure reports? For example, can you add your company logo and use your corporate fonts without a lot of struggle?
Bonus check:
- Can you try the calibration management software before you buy it? Some corporations offer a free trial that lets you “kick the tires” before committing to a purchase.
