Running Procedures in MET/CAL Software by Asset Number
Application information for v6.01 MET/BASE
Problem
It is sometimes desirable to run MET/CALl procedures by asset number rather that selecting a procedure from the list. In order for this to work the complete procedure name, as it appears in the procedure selection list of the Runtime, must be available in Inventory field 4241.
Two scenarios are possible:
- You have never run procedures and are building the database.
- You have run procedures in the "By Procedure Name" mode.
1. First we will look at building a new database.
When a procedure is run, MET/CAL will write the procedure name to Calibration field 2320. We will use Dbsetup to copy this name to Inventory field 4241. Start Dbsetup and log in as the MT user. Select field 4241 from the fields list and click on edit. Select the Update tab and click on the “Source” field. From the list select 2320.
This tells the system to copy the contents of Calibration field 2320 to Inventory field 4241.
Next in runtime select Configure/Procedure Selection Method/By Asset Number.
Now each time you complete a procedure for an asset, the procedure name will appear in field 4241 as well as on the calibration form. Until all assets have been calibrated at least once, you will have to use the "By Procedure Name" method in runtime.
2. If you have been running MET/CAL software and created an existing database in the Procedure Name mode, but did not select the copy from Calibration field 2320 to Inventory 4241, you can update the inventory field using ISQL. This will involve a "Copy" of the data. The following ISQL command will perform this update:
Update inventory,calibration set i4241 = c2320
where c2339 = 1
and inventory.mtag = calibration.mtag
commit work
Note: If you are not familiar with ISQL or are unsure as to its use, contact MET/SUPPORT.
Once this update has been done, go to dbsetup as described above and set the copy to inventory field 4241.
Now you will be able to run procedures using the "By Asset Number" selection.
Additional notes
An executable program is available from Met/Support that will read the contents of the procedure directory and create a text file. This text file can then be used to validate Inventory field 4241. As new assets are added to the database you can select the proper procedure for this asset and in turn run the correct procedure from the Run Time.
